Foreigners Held For 'Illegal' Gadgets

MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Wednesday announced the arrest of two foreign nationals, after a search warrant issued by a Las Piñas judge, was served to them for alleged possession of an electronic gadget believed to turn overseas calls into local calls.
NCRPO Chief, Alan Purisima, identified the arrested suspects as Cheng Wenbing, alias Jack Chen, 26, and Lirio Xiao Bing, 24, both residents of Unit 1101 Almanza Metropolis Condominium, Manila Doctor’s Village, Access Road, Las Piñas City.
Purisima said the arrest of the two foreign nationals was made after Ricardo Villenueva, 27, who represents the Security Department of Globe Telecom Company in Boni Avenue, Mandaluyong City reported that the two were in alleged possession of WaveCom Gem Modem, an electronic gadget being used to turn an overseas call into a local call to the prejudice of the company.
He said that after a search warrant was issued by Judge Elizabeth Yu-Guray of Las Piñas Regional Trial Court, members of the Regional Police Intelligence Operations Unit (RPIOU) conducted operation and served the search warrant which was witnessed by Barangay Almanza Uno, Las Pinas City barangay tanods, Jimmy Raymundo and Lorenzo Ferolino Jr.

The NCRPO chief said that RPIOU operatives were able to recover from the possession of the two foreign nationals, the subject of the search warrant and believed to be used in their alleged illegal trade, were seven units of GSM WaveCom Modem, one laptop Lenovo Think Pad, two units of LCD monitor, one unit of blackberry cellular phone, one unit of Nokia cellular phone E-7, one unit of Nokia cellular phone with flash light, and one unit Smart Bro Wireless Broadband.
